Horror - a fantasy of horror - a fantasy that consists in building a world modeled on the reality and the laws of the ruling to bring about phenomena that challenge those laws and can not be explained without resorting to supernatural phenomena. The source of this horror perception is directly related to the literary genre itself, and is essentially related to it. In the movie horror this definition has evolved over the last century, mainly due to the flourishing of the exploitation cinema, which took place in the 70s of the last century. The purpose of the film is to make the viewer's horror, anxiety, or disgust and shock. The main motifs of horror are usually vampires, demons, ghosts, werewolves, haunted buildings, cannibals or zombies. Horror does not have to include supernatural elements. The plot can be based on real danger and fear, whose main motives are usually psychopathic killers, rapists, virus epidemics, dangerous beasts, beatings, or horrible memories / visions of the main character.

Horror – fantastyka grozy – odmiana fantastyki polegająca na budowaniu świata przedstawionego na wzór rzeczywistości i praw nią rządzących po to, aby wprowadzić w jego obręb zjawiska kwestionujące te prawa i nie dające się wytłumaczyć bez odwoływania się do zjawisk nadprzyrodzonych. Źródła takiego postrzegania horroru związane są bezpośrednio z samym powstaniem literackiego gatunku horroru i zasadniczo do niego się odnoszą. W horrorze filmowym definicja ta ewoluowała na przestrzeni ostatniego stulecia, głównie przez rozkwit kina eksploatacji, które miało miejsce w latach 70. ubiegłego wieku. Celem filmowego horroru jest wywołanie u widza klimatu grozy, niepokoju lub obrzydzenia i szoku. Głównymi motywami horrorów są zazwyczaj wampiry, demony, duchy, wilkołaki, nawiedzone budynki, kanibale lub zombie. Horror nie musi jednak zawierać elementów nadprzyrodzonych. Fabuła może być oparta na realnym zagrożeniu i strachu, których głównym motywem są zazwyczaj psychopatyczni zabójcy, gwałciciele, epidemia wirusa, groźne zwierzę, pobicia lub koszmarne wspomnienia/wizje głównego bohatera.
