Huascarán

Huascarán

Huascarán or Nevado Huascarán is the peak in the Peruvian Andes. The highest, southern peak of the massif is the highest peak in all of Peru and the highest peak in the interstitial belt on Earth. It owes its name to Huáscar, the 16th-century Inca chief, who was named Sapa Inca. Huascarán, in turn, named the Huascarán National Park that surrounds it. A normal road to the summit leads from the village of Musho. The entrance usually takes about 6 days, with large slots that can block the road. The first entrance took place on July 20, 1932. It was the German-Austrian expedition composed of Philipp Borchers, Wilhelm Bernard, Erwin Hein, Hermann Hoerlin and Erwin Schneider. The Northern Summit was conquered in 1908 by an expedition from the United States. On May 31, 1970, an earthquake occurred, which caused a major slope of the northern summit. A block of ice and 1 millimeter of stone in just 5 minutes fell to Yungay, burying the whole city and causing more than 20,000 deaths. people. A whole crew of Czechoslovak climbers died in the avalanche. Blok lodu i kamieni o wymiarach 1 mili2 w ciągu zaledwie 5 minut osunął się do Yungay, grzebiąc całe miasto i powodując śmierć ponad 20 tys. ludzi. W lawinie zginęła cała ekipa czechosłowackich alpinistów.
