WHAT DOES K2 MEAN IN POLISH?

K2

K2 - eight thousand, the highest peak of Karakorum, the second highest peak of the Earth. It is located on the border between China and Pakistan, but India continues to complain to the whole of Kashmir, believing itself to be the K2 administrator as well. It is one of the two eight-thousand-year-olds not covered in winter. Built of crystalline rocks, mainly gneisses and granites. In 1856 British T. G. Montgomerie of the Indian Meteorological Office measured the summit, calling it K2 and marking it as the second in the list of 35 Karakorum summits. The name K2 is K-Karakorum, and 2 means the position on the checklist and has no relation to the summit height and the position of the mountain. In keeping with the policy of the Indian Metrology Office, they tried to call the summits according to their local names. However, due to the exceptional isolation, K2 did not have a local name. The summit was not visible either from the nearest village north of it or from the nearest village to the south. It is visible from the glacier of Baltoro, but there the inhabitants of nearby settlements very rarely.

K2 – ośmiotysięcznik, najwyższy szczyt Karakorum, drugi co do wysokości szczyt Ziemi. Znajduje się na granicy Chin i Pakistanu, jednak Indie wciąż zgłaszają pretensje do całego Kaszmiru, uważając się tym samym również za administratora K2. Jest to jeden z dwóch ośmiotysięczników niezdobytych zimą. Zbudowany ze skał krystalicznych, głównie gnejsów i granitów. W 1856 Brytyjczyk T. G. Montgomerie z indyjskiego urzędu mierniczego dokonał pomiaru szczytu, nazywając go K2 i oznaczając jako drugi na liście 35 szczytów Karakorum. Nazwa K2 to: K-Karakorum, a 2 oznacza pozycję na liście mierniczej i ma związek nie z wysokością szczytu, a położeniem góry. Zgodnie z polityką Indyjskiego Urzędu Mierniczego starano się nazywać szczyty zgodnie z ich lokalnymi nazwami. Jednakże ze względu na wyjątkowe odosobnienie K2 nie posiadał lokalnej nazwy. Szczyt nie był widoczny ani z najbliższej wioski na północ od niego, ani od najbliższej wioski na południe. Widoczny jest z lodowca Baltoro, tam jednak mieszkańcy pobliskich osad zapuszczali się bardzo rzadko.
