Crystal night

Noc kryształowa

The crystal night - pogrom of Jews in Nazi Germany, which took place on the night of 9 to 10 November 1938. Streets of German cities were covered with fragments of glass and crystals from the destroyed Jewish dwellings and shops, hence the name of the pogrom. The second theory of the name speaks of "crystallization", ie purification of the German people from other nations, and above all the Jews. Crystal night was the first pogrom of Jews initiated by state authorities, although they date back to the Middle Ages. The Nazis not only allowed the persecution of the Jewish population, but also gave them an organized character. The event is also described by other names: "night of shame", "November pogrom", "German night", "night of the Jews", "the night of the Reich", "the day of broken glass". Wydarzenie to określane bywa również innymi nazwami: "noc hańby", "pogrom listopadowy", "niemiecka noc", "noc Żydów", "noc kryształowa Rzeszy", "dzień tłuczonego szkła".
