Libido

Libido, sexual drive - a mental representation of stimulation derived from the inside of the body, aimed at satisfying sexual needs. It is a motivational factor, conditioned by the biological structure of the organism, causing forms of behavior aimed at satisfying the needs. According to Hans Gies, sexual desire is a selective state of willingness to adopt a sexual partner. This concept was introduced by Zygmunt Freud, who understood libido as a form of energy through which the demands of life fulfill their functions. Freud believed that libido is the life force, the sexual energy that runs counter to tanatos, the energy of all destructive processes. The contradiction between libido and tanatos had an internal conflict: if libido was suppressed, the superego would reproach the conscience; This process is to launch a defense mechanism in the form of sublimation of sexual desire and convert it into socially acceptable forms.

Libido, popęd seksualny – psychiczna reprezentacja pobudzenia pochodzącego z wnętrza organizmu, mająca na celu zaspokojenie potrzeb seksualnych. Stanowi ona czynniki motywacyjne, uwarunkowane biologiczną strukturą organizmu, powodujące formy zachowania, których celem jest zaspokojenie potrzeb. Według Hansa Giesego popęd seksualny to wybiórczy stan gotowości na przyjęcie partnera w zakresie jego płciowości. Pojęcie to wprowadził Zygmunt Freud, który rozumiał libido jako formę energii, za pośrednictwem której popędy życia spełniają swoje funkcje. Freud uważał, że libido to energia życiowa, energia seksualna, która występuje w sprzeczności z tanatos – energią wywołującą wszelkie procesy destrukcyjne. Sprzeczność między libido a tanatos miała według niego powodować wewnętrzny konflikt: jeżeli zaspokojone zostanie libido – superego sprawia, że odzywają się wyrzuty sumienia; proces ten ma uruchamiać mechanizm obronny w postaci sublimacji popędu seksualnego i zamiany go na społecznie akceptowane formy.
