Medal - small, usually round or oval, flat metal, usually made by casting or beating. It is usually decorated on one or both sides with a relief. Often hanging on a ribbon. The earliest medals of the modern period are from 14th-century Italy, and the medallion's flourishing is in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The first medal in Poland was won for Jan Turzo in 1508. Medals are made to commemorate important events or as decorations, awards for outstanding achievements, such as sports, military, etc. Sports medals are round or oval discs decorated on one or both sides with relief. For winning first place gold, second silver, and third brown. Military medals have a much more varied form. Their shape, color, or size depend largely on the creativity of the creator and the requirements of the state.

Medal – niewielki, najczęściej okrągły lub owalny, płaski wytwór metalowy, wykonany zazwyczaj techniką odlewu lub bicia. Jest zwykle ozdobiony po jednej lub obu stronach reliefem. Często jest zawieszony na wstążce. Pierwsze medale epoki nowożytnej pochodzą z XIV-wiecznych Włoch, a rozkwit medalierstwa przypada na wieki XV i XVI. Pierwszy medal w Polsce został wybity dla Jana Turzo, w 1508 roku. Medale wykonuje się dla upamiętnienia ważnych wydarzeń lub jako odznaczenia, nagrody za wybitne osiągnięcia, np. sportowe, wojskowe itp. Medal za osiągnięcia sportowe jest to okrągły lub owalny krążek zdobiony po jednej lub po obu stronach reliefem. Za zdobycie pierwszego miejsca złoty, drugiego srebrny, a trzeciego brązowy. Medale wojskowe mają dużo bardziej różnorodną formę. Ich kształt, kolor, czy wielkość zależą w większości od pomysłowości twórcy i wymogów państwowych.
