O-bon

O-bon

O-bon - equivalent to the Feast of the Dead in Japanese Buddhism, during which he worshiped his ancestors. The O-bon festival, celebrating over 500 years, is celebrated from August 13th to 16th, and is one of the three most important holiday periods in Japan, except for the New Year celebrations of shōgatsu and the so-called " Golden Week. During the O-bon period, the Japanese visit family graves and sacrifice them. According to the Japanese beliefs, during the O-bon ghosts of the ancestors return to Earth to visit their relatives. In many cities, neighborhoods and neighborhoods there are local festivals combined with traditional dances - Bon-Odori. River lanes and sea lanterns float down the water to bring the souls of the dead back to their land. Every year on the 15th of August there is also the illumination of the temple of Tōdai-ji in Nara, as well as the Kasuga temple and many others. In Kyoto the climax of the summer celebration is to ignite the outbreaks on August 16th, surrounding the city's five hills, including the most important: Daimonji-yama.
