Oe is found in Latin and corresponds to today's pronunciations / e / or / ö /, in classical Latin close to the German eu, and in the archaic / oj /. Latin texts are also replaced by ligature Œ. In German, it replaces ö in the absence of appropriate fonts. Oe występuje między innymi w łacinie i odpowiada współcześnie wymowie /e/ lub /ö/, w łacinie klasycznej zbliżone do niemieckiego eu, a w archaicznej /oj/. W łacińskich tekstach bywa też zastępowane ligaturą Œ. W języku niemieckim zastępuje ö przy braku odpowiednich czcionek.
