Portsmouth

Portsmouth is a city on the south coast of England in the ceremonial county of Hampshire. Portsmouth is located 103 km southwest of London and 31 km east of Southampton. Portsmouth, once a major port of the navy, is a great attraction for lovers of maritime history of Great Britain. One of the most interesting places is the old shipyard where you can see the fuselage "Mary Rose" - the famous flagship ship of Henry VIII, and the liner "Victory" - on board aboard Admiral Horatio Nelson. Port currently also serves as the Royal Navy's base. Another noteworthy place is the Charles Dickens Museum - a house where in 1812 was born writer Charles Dickens. The city also has Spinnaker Tower, which is the architectural pride of the city and is visited by many tourists. Most of Portsmouth is located on Portsea Island, with the English Channel's Solent Strait. Portsmouth is a thriving city with many international companies, including IBM, BAE Systems and EADS Astrium.
