Seaborg

Seaborg

Seaborg, formerly called unnilhexium, is a chemical element of transition metals in the periodic table. The name comes from the American chemist Glenn T. Seaborga. There are 12 isotopes of this element. The most stable is the 271Sg isotope, which has a half-life of about 2 minutes. This element does not occur naturally; It was artificially obtained in parallel by two scientific groups. In July 1974, the Alberta Ghiorso team at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley, published information about the 263Sg isotope, which had a half-life of about 1 second. In September of that year, the Soviet team led by Gieorgi Florov announced a 259Sg isotope. Has a half-life of 0.48 s. Seaborg has chemical properties similar to tungsten. Despite the short life span of the nuclear nuclei of the seaborg, it was possible to obtain various compounds of this element. These include the hexacharbonyl of seaborg, the first known supercritical carbon compound. Należy do nich heksakarbonylek seaborgu, pierwszy znany związek pierwiastka superciężkiego z węglem.
