Westminster

Westminster is a city in Westminster, England, located in the City of Westminster. The boundaries of the district are Vauxhall Bridge Road in the south west, Birdcage Walk, Horse Guards Road and Northumberland Avenue in the north, and the river Tamiza in the east. The district is located among others. The Palace of Westminster, the seat of the British Parliament and the Westminster Abbey, as well as the headquarters of the British Prime Minister, Foreign Office, Treasury, Admiralty, London Police and Counterintelligence. Buckingham Palace is also nearby. The oldest traces of Westminster settlements date back to Roman times. Since 785 this area belonged to the monks. In the eleventh century, Edward the Confessor brought here the royal palace and the Westminster Abbey, which was the site of the coronation and burial of most English and then British monarchs. In 1540 Westminster received the status of city. In 1547 the palace became the seat of the parliament. In 1834 almost completely burned down, its reconstruction lasted until 1860. Westminster – dzielnica środkowego Londynu, położona na terenie gminy City of Westminster, w przeszłości samodzielne miasto.
