Android
The word android is to designate any being that has the form of a man, in contraponto to the word ginoide that serves to designate beings of feminine form. However, by its use in several works of science fiction, the term happened to be used more specifically to describe robots with human appearance. The same did not occur with the term ginoid, with very few books and movies using that term to describe female-looking robots. Thus, the term android is also used to describe female robots. Famous science fiction writer Isaac Asimov has created several android characters, among them Dors Venabilis, Daneel Olivaw and Andrew. Perhaps the most popular work of the term was the film Blade Runner: The Hunter of Androids, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford. The film is based on a book by science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. In the manga and anime Dragon Ball, by Akira Toriyama, also appear androids, which are the androids 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21, also known as Cell.
