WHAT DOES BITU MEAN IN PORTUGUESE?

Sava

Saúva is a common name for ants, especially those of the genus Atta, of the formicidae family. It has about two hundred species, native to the New World and abundant in the Neotropical region. They cut pieces of leaves, which they carry to the nests in order to create the fungi that constitute their exclusive food. In Brazil, they are one of the most important agricultural pests. They are also called, among other names, saúba, ant-cutter, ant-loader, mandioca ant, ant-headed, ant-roçaira, roceira, cabeçuda, mançara, maniuara, caiapó, loader, cortadeira, ant -caiapó, ant-da-roça, ant-of-us, ant-saúva, lavradeira, manhuara and pickling. The leaves and other parts of plants cut by the sava are taken to the anthill to serve as a substrate for the cultivation of the mutual fungus from which the ants feed.
