Chama-se drag queen o homem que se veste com roupas exageradas femininas estilizadas, e drag king a mulher que se veste como homem. A transformação em drag queen geralmente envolve, por parte do artista, a criação de um personagem caracteristicamente cômico e/ou exagerado. Tanto drag queens como drag kings podem ter qualquer orientação sexual, e sê-lo não é indicativo de se ser homossexual, bissexual ou heterossexual.
