Fibromatosis

Fibromatose

Fibromatosis is a disease of unknown etiology characterized by exaggerated proliferation of connective tissue and production of large amounts of thick collagen fibers that form irregular masses or nodules. In palmar and plantar fibromatosis, proliferated cells are myofibroblasts, which is why the lesion tends to contract and produce deformities in the hands or feet. In penile fibromatosis, fibrosis on the back of the penis forms the mass that changes the anatomy of the organ. The palmar, plantar and penile fibromatoses may park or even regress spontaneously, but in many cases require surgical intervention. Researches show the efficiency of methods such as cryotherapy in the treatment of pathology. The demyroid tumor or aggressive fibromatosis is characterized by the proliferation of conjuctive tissue that slowly infiltrates the surrounding structures, especially fascias and muscles. The lesion is very cellular in the peripheral part, but in the central region it consists of thick bundles of partially hyalinized collagen.
