Ailurophobia

Ailurofobia

Ailurophobia is the irrational fear of cats, specifically. Individuals with ailurophobia feel uncomfortable in the presence even of distant from these animals, and often strike them for no apparent reason. There are ancient records of ailurophobia, dating back to ancient Egyptian times, where these animals had a character related to local religiosity. During the Middle Ages, cats became victims of countless cruelties, because due to popular beliefs, some people believed that these animals were possessed by the devil. Until now there is an irrational aversion to cats, which has been the cause of constant violations of animal rights resulting in numerous social conflicts related to coexistence between neighbors. Among personalities who had ailurophobia are Caesar Augustus, Henry III of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler.
