The lotos or lotus tree is a fantastic plant that appears in two histories of the Greek mythology: the Odisseia and Homero and in Metamorfoses and Fasti of Ovid, which is also mentioned in the Book of Job [3] of the Old Testament, by Pliny the Elder [4] and by Muhammad. [1] In the Odyssey, lotus was a flower-shaped food, with the sweet scent of honey, which made the person who ate it forget its mission. Odysseus sent three men to explore the island, called land of the lotus eaters, and these men did not want to return to the ships, being dragged by force, weeping. Odysseus quickly left this island, before the other men ate the lotus and did not want to return home. [5] The term lotófago is therefore applied to someone who leads a carefree life and of lust. In Fasti, Ovid records a tale of almost rape of the nymph Loti, who slept under the effects of alcohol.

Odisseu enviou três homens para explorar a ilha, chamada terra dos comedores de lotos, e estes homens não quiseram voltar aos navios, sendo arrastados à força, chorando. Odisseu foi rapidamente embora desta ilha, antes que os outros homens comessem o lotos e não quisessem mais voltar para casa.[5] [6] O termo lotófago é por isso aplicado a alguém que leva uma vida despreocupada e de luxúria.[1] Em Fasti, Ovídio narra uma história de quase violação da ninfa Lótis, que dormia sob efeitos do álcool.
