LSD is the acronym for Lysergsäurediethylamid, the German word for lysergic acid diethylamide, which is one of the most potent hallucinogenic substances known. LSD, or more precisely LSD25, is a crystalline compound, which occurs naturally as a result of the metabolic reactions of the fungus Claviceps purpurea, related especially to the alkaloids produced by this ergot. It was first synthesized in 1938, and in 1943 the Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann, while working at Sandoz, accidentally discovered its effects, from which he became enthusiastic until his death at age 102. It causes sensorial changes of inexhaustible and unpredictable variation, a fact easily verified in reports from the medical literature of its initial testing phase below. Hoffman, also responsible for isolating several other widely used active drug principles, has always condemned the irresponsible and / or ignorant use of this substance by unprepared individuals who mistakenly believe it to be a merely pleasurable or recreational drug.

O LSD, ou mais precisamente LSD25, é um composto cristalino, que ocorre naturalmente como resultado das reações metabólicas do fungo Claviceps purpurea, relacionado especialmente com os alcalóides produzidos por esta cravagem. Foi sintetizado pela primeira vez em 1938 e, em 1943, o químico suíço Albert Hofmann, enquanto trabalhava na Sandoz, acidentalmente descobriu os seus efeitos, de que se tornou entusiasta até sua morte aos 102 anos. Causa alterações sensoriais de variação inesgotável e imprevisível, um dado facilmente verificável em relatos da literatura médica de sua fase de testes iniciais adiante. Hoffman, também responsável por isolar diversos outros princípios ativos de medicamentos até hoje amplamente utilizados, sempre condenou o uso irresponsável e/ou ignorante dessa substância por indivíduos despreparados, que erroneamente crêem tratar-se de uma droga meramente prazerosa ou recreativa.
