Megapodiidae
Megapodiidae The Megapodiidae family includes medium-sized land birds, with relatively small heads, proportionally large feet, and large posterior toe at the same level as the others. They occur in the wide region of Australasia, including the islands of Micronesia, Melanesia, Australia, New Guinea, and the Indonesian islands east of the Wallace Line, however they are also found on the Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal. The evolutionary relations of the family are still uncertain. It is traditionally included, like the Cracidae family, in the order Galliformes, although Sibley and Ahlquist propose these two families as a proper order, Craciformes. The family has 7 genera and 22 species.
