The Wolverine or Protele is a mammal whose scientific name is Proteles cristatus, also known as anthill bear or African tingling bear. There are two subspecies: Proteus cristatus cristatus Proteus cristatus septentrionalis The wolf is similar to the hyena-scratched, but smaller, has a narrower snout, more pointed ears, vertical lists, and a long mane below the line average neck and back. It measures up to 50 cm to the shoulders, weighs 9 kg, and has two glands in the back, which secrete a musky liquid used to mark the territory and communicate with others of the same species. The wolf has nocturnal habits and feeds mainly on termites of the genus Trinervitermes, but also from Odontotermes, Macrotermes, and Hodotermes. Unlike other large insectivores, such as the oricterope and the anteater, the wolf can not dig and therefore expects the insects to leave the termite tree. In one day, a wolf from the earth can consume more than 30,000 termites.

O lobo-da-terra ou protelo é um mamífero cujo nome científico é Proteles cristatus, sendo também designado por urso-formigueiro ou urso-formigueiro-africano. Existem duas subespécies: ▪ Proteles cristatus cristatus ▪ Proteles cristatus septentrionalis O lobo-da-terra é semelhante à hiena-riscada, mas tem menor porte, tem um focinho mais estreito, orelhas mais ponteagudas, listas verticais, e uma longa crina abaixo da linha média do pescoço e nas costas. Mede até 50 cm até às espáduas, chega a pesar 9 kg, e possui duas glândulas na parte posterior, que segregam um líquido almiscarado usado para marcar o território e comunicar com outros da mesma espécie. O lobo-da-terra tem hábitos nocturnos e alimenta-se principalmente de térmitas do género Trinervitermes, mas também de Odontotermes, Macrotermes, e Hodotermes. Ao contrário de outros grandes insectívoros, como o oricterope e o tamanduá, o lobo-da-terra não consegue escavar e, por isso, espera que os insectos saiam da termiteira. Num só dia, um lobo da terra consegue consumir mais de 30 000 térmitas.
