Senegal

Senegal, officially the Republic of Senegal is a country located in West Africa. It borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mauritania to the north and east, Mali to the east, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south. The Gambia forms a quasi-enclave in Senegal, penetrating more than 300 km inland. The Cape Verde Islands are located 560 km off the coast of Senegal. The country owes its name to the river that borders it to the east and to the north and rises in Fouta Djallon in Guinea. The climate is tropical and dry with two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season. The present territory of Senegal has seen the development of several kingdoms, like the Empire of Djolof, vassal of the successive empires of Ghana, Mali and Songhai. After 1591, he suffered the consecutive West African political fragmentation at the Battle of Tondibi. In the seventeenth century, several accountants belonging to several European colonial empires settled along the coast, they serve to support the triangular trade.
