The letter or character sigma or Σ is the eighteenth letter of the Greek alphabet and corresponds to our S. In the Greek numerical system, it has a value of 200. When used at the end of a word the final small form is used. In a practice similar to Cyrillic faux, upper-case sigmas are used in place of Roman "E's" to give a Greek look to titles or text, for example in the film My Big Fat GRΣΣK Wedding. In the comic books Asterix, Gaul, the lines of the Greek characters use this file. However, the similarity between Σ and E is only superficial. In the eastern forms of Greek writing and the Middle Ages, "increasing sigma", similar to a letter C, was eventually used. It may eventually be found in inscriptions in Greek Orthodox churches where, for example, the interpretation of God's creation can be described by the word ΚΟCΜΟC, while the modern form of Greek writing would be ΚΟΣΜΟΣ. The letter Σ is used in mathematics, as a summation symbol, or as statistical variables. Just as the lower case of sigma σ stands for Standard Deviation.

Quando usada no final de uma palavra a forma minúscula final é usada. Numa prática similar ao faux cirílico, sigmas maiúsculas são usadas no lugar de "E" romanos, para dar um aspecto grego a títulos ou texto, por exemplo, no filme My Big Fat GRΣΣK Wedding. Nas histórias em quadrinhos Asterix, o Gaulês, as falas dos personagens gregos utilizam deste expediente. No entanto, a similaridade entre Σ e E é apenas superficial. Nas formas orientais da escrita grega e na Idade Média, o "sigma crescente", similar a uma letra C, era eventualmente usado. Pode eventualmente ser encontrado em inscrições nas igrejas ortodoxas gregas onde, por exemplo, a interpretação da criação de Deus pode ser descrita pela palavra ΚΟCΜΟC, enquanto a forma moderna da escrita grega seria ΚΟΣΜΟΣ.
