In Accounting, surplus or surplus is the generic name that is given to a balance sheet of entities for economic purposes or Public Administration, which generally corresponds to the account Profit for the year, the Private Business Balance Sheet. In Administration, surplus can be the surplus resulting from budget execution that measured more gains than expenses. In this case the budget is called a surplus and the opposite result is called "deficit". By the public budget technique, the plan must be balanced. Thus, if the estimated common incomes are lower than the established common expenditure, the budget should provide for the objective of financing the deficit, usually through credit operations. In economy or national accounting, when there is a positive difference between revenue and expenditure in a country's trade balance, it becomes a surplus, leaving capital to reinvest in the financial system itself.

Em Contabilidade, superavit ou superávite é o nome genérico que se dá a uma conta de balanços de entidades com finalidades econômicas ou da Administração pública, que em geral corresponde ao da conta Lucro do exercício, dos Balanços empresariais privados. Em Administração, superavit pode ser o excedente resultante da execução orçamentária que aferiu mais ganhos do que gastos. Nesse caso o orçamento é chamado de superavitário e o resultado oposto denomina-se "deficit". Pela técnica orçamentária pública, o plano deve estar equilibrado. Assim se a princípio as receitas comuns estimadas forem inferiores as despesas comuns fixadas, o orçamento deverá prever formar objetivas de financiar esse deficit, geralmente através de operações de crédito. Em Economia ou contabilidade nacional, quando há uma diferença positiva entre receita e despesa na balança comercial de um país, esta passa a ser superavitária, sobrando capital para reinvestir no próprio sistema financeiro.
