Este unul din puținele cuvinte it. intrate în vechime în limba populară, probabil pe filieră comercială. Schimbarea semantică, ce constituie principala obiecție a DAR, este posibilă, dacă se are în vedere faptul că uzul popular indică prin acioaie orice aliaj, fără a fi posibilă o identificare mai exactă.
