Definition of calypso in the Romanian dictionary
Calypso, a nymph on the island of Ogygia, where Odysseus was said to be wrecked. Coupled with the hero, Calypso promised her immortality, asking her instead to stay with her. Moved by the longing to return to Ithaca without delay, Odysseus refuses to agree. He is detained for seven (after another variant for ten years) by Calypso, who ultimately orders Zeus to let go of his journey (vv. and Odysseus). Calypso, nimfă din insula Ogygia, unde se spunea că ar fi naufragiat Odysseus. Îndrăgostindu-se de erou, Calypso i-a făgăduit nemurirea, cerîndu-i în schimb să rămînă pururi lîngă ea.
