chíngă (chíngi), s. f.1. Cingătoare, brîu. – 2. Fîșie de piele cu care se fixează șaua pe cal. – 3. Curea, legătură. – 4. Gaică la haine și paltoane. – 5. Bară, stinghie. – 6. Fîșie de teren. – Var. cingă. Mr. vingă, vinglă, megl. cl’ingă. Lat. cingŭla (Diez, I, 27; Densusianu, Rom., XXIX, 330 și XXXIII, 276; Pușcariu 370; Candrea-Dens., 350; REW 1926; DAR); cf. alb. kjingëlë, it. cinghia, prov. cenha, fr. sangle, cat. singla, sp. cello și cincha (Corominas, I, 756). Fonetismul rom. prezintă o schimbare care se explică de obicei printr-o metateză anterioară rom. (lat. *clinga, după Candrea-Dens., și DAR), ipoteză infirmată de var. Mai curînd trebuie presupus că rezultatul normal de la cingula, rom. *cinghiă › *cinghe, pl. cinghi (cf. auriculaureche, pl. urechi) a produs probabil, pe de o parte, metateza chingi cu sing. regresiv chingă, și pe de altă parte un sing. analogic cingă (DAR explică această ultimă formă ca pronunțare locală, în Mold., și ca reprezentant al unui lat. *clinga, în Trans.; cf. Pușcariu 370). Cf. totuși lat. *clinganapol. chienga (Battisti, II, 944). Der. închinga (var. închingi, înching(i)ui), vb. (a încinge; a pune chinga); deschinga, vb. (a scoate chinga). Cf. cinge.
