Harar

Harar. East of Ethiopia. The population of the old city, about 500 kilometers from the capital Addis Ababa, is 122 thousand people according to 2005 statistics and was taken to the list of World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2006. Founded in the 7th century, the city became the center of the Adal Sultanate and became the capital of Ahmad Gran, who declared jihad in 1529 with the support of the Ottoman State to the Christian Abbasid state. With the development of coffee trade, basketry and bookbinding sectors, XVI. Living in the golden age of the century, Harar went down after Gran's defeat. Having continued as a separate city state until 1875, Harar was conquered by the troops under the command of Rauf Pasha of the Egyptian Hidivi of the Ottoman State, and the city actually went to Turkish rule. Harar, who had a two-year independence period after the withdrawal of Egyptian troops in 1885, was captured and annexed to Ethiopian troops in 1887. Harar. Etiyopya'nın doğusunda kent. Kahve ticareti, sepetçilik ve ciltçilik sektörlerinin gelişmesiyle XVI. yüzyılda altın devrini yaşayan Harar, Gran'ın yenilgisinden sonra düşüşe geçti. 1875'e dek müstakil bir şehir devleti olarak varlığını sürdüren Harar bu tarihte Osmanlı Devleti'ne bağlı Mısır Hıdivliği'nin Rauf Paşa komutasındaki birlikleri tarafından zaptedildi ve kent fiilen Türk yönetimine geçti. 1885'te Mısır birliklerinin çekilmesinden sonra iki yıllık bir bağımsızlık dönemi yaşayan Harar, 1887'de Etiyopya birliklerince ele geçirildi ve bu ülkeye ilhak edildi.
