Islam, Islam or Islam is one of the most common Abrahamic religions based on one god faith. Islam began to spread in the 7th century through the prophet Muhammad. It is called Muslim in the sense of belief in belief or belief in belonging to Islamic religion. İslâm, İslâmiyet veya Müslümanlık, tek tanrı inancına dayalı en yaygın İbrahimî dinlerden biridir. İslam, peygamberi Muhammed aracılığıyla 7. yüzyılda yayılmaya başlamıştır. İslam dinine mensup kişilere iman etmiş, inançlı anlamında mü'min veya Allah'a teslimiyet gösteren anlamında Müslüman denir. Zaman zaman gayrimüslim kaynaklarda tercih edilen Muhammedîlik veya Muhammedizm tanımlaması Müslümanlarca kullanılmaz. İslam inancına göre, İslam'ın kutsal kitabı Kur'an'ı oluşturan sureler Cebrail isimli melek aracılığıyla sözlü olarak Muhammed'e vahyolmuştur. İslam'ın temelinde, tevhid ilkesi yatar ki bu kavram Allah'ın varlığı ve birliğine inanmak anlamına gelir. Başlarda siyasal, sonra da teolojik-kavramsal farklılıklar kazanmış olan Şiîlik ve ana akımı temsil eden Sünnilik, ana islam mezheplerini oluşur. Bunların dışında İslam dininde fıkıh ve itîkât gibi konularla ilgili çok sayıda mezhep bulunur. Muhammed, İslam dinini yaymasının yanı sıra daha sonraları hâlife ve hanedânlarca yönetilen bir İslam Devleti de kurmuştur.
