The gypsum chemical compound is a mineral with calcium sulphate. The compound with two molecules of crystal water is called gypsum. Calcium sulphate mineral with water in it is crystallized into single or twin columns. Gypsum crystals are found in clay and marl, or in salty and plastered mountains. It is found in Anatolia as a large rock in the Kızılırmak region, especially with rock salt. Two different types of gypsum are obtained by processing gypsum in two forms. Firstly, the gypsum is crushed, the crumbles are crumbled, the bricks are heated to 120 degrees in the ovens and an amount of the water in them is taken and re-pulverized. Especially mold, model, ceiling ornaments used in this kind of plaster, if mixed with water frost at the latest within half an hour. The second type of gypsum is obtained by completely removing the water in the gypsum by heating it to 450 degrees after crushing the gypsum stone. When this mixture is mixed with water, it becomes a donor and very durable mass after a few weeks.

Alçıtaşı kimyasal bileşimi kalsiyum sülfat olan bir mineraldir. Bileşiminde iki molekül kristal suyu bulunan türüne jips denir. İçinde su bulunan kalsiyum sülfat minerali, tek veya ikiz sütunlar halinde billûrlanır. Alçı billurlarına kil ve marn içinde, veya tuzlu ve alçılı dağların boşluklarında rastlanır. Anadolu'da kaya tuzu ile birlikte bilhassa yukarı Kızılırmak bölgesinde büyük kayalar halinde bulunur. Alçı taşı iki şekilde işlenerek birbirinden farklı iki cins alçı elde edilir. Birinci şekilde, alçı taşı kırılır, değirmenlerde ufalanır, tuğla, fırınlarında 120 dereceye kadar ısıtılarak içindeki suyun bir miktarı alınır ve tekrar değirmenden geçirilerek toz haline getirilir. Bilhassa kalıp, model, tavan süsleri yapılmasında kullanılan bu cins alçı, su ile karıştırılırsa en geç yarım saat içinde donar. İkinci şekil alçı elde etmek, alçı taşının değirmende ufalanmasından sonra 450 dereceye kadar ısıtılarak içindeki suyun tamamen alınması ile olur. Bu cins alçılar, su ile karıştırıldığında birkaç hafta sonra donar ve çok dayanıklı bir kütle haline gelir.
