The sperm, or spermatozoon with its full scientific name, is the reproductive cell of male individuals. The production of these cells, formed in the testes, begins in adolescence. At the head of the fertilization, the hereditary information is transferred to the egg. There is a tail and it is motion. About 150-200 million sperm are released during a mating. However, the egg can fertilize only one sperm. When a sperm reaches an egg cell, it leaves the tail outside to enter the egg, passing through the egg envelope and transmitting hereditary information to the egg. The sperm are contained in a thick liquid. This fluid is called the semen or ersuyu. The sperm head is like a cell nucleus. Keep hereditary information in it. It has genetic code and DNA in it. When they lay eggs, chromosomes multiply and gender is determined accordingly. Chromosomes occur in one single, double sexes, and the sex of the individual to be born at time of division. Half of the sperm is X and the other half is Y chromosome.

Sperm ya da tam bilimsel adı ile spermatozoon, erkek bireylere ait üreme hücresidir. Testislerde oluşan bu hücrelerin üretimi ergenlik döneminde başlar. Baş kısmında döllenme sırasında yumurtaya aktaracağı kalıtsal bilgi taşır. Kuyruğu vardır ve hareketlidir. Bir çiftleşme sırasında yaklaşık 150-200 milyon sperm salınır. Ancak yumurtayı yalnızca tek bir sperm dölleyebilir. Bir sperm bir yumurta hücresine ulaştığında, yumurtaya girmek için kuyruğunu dışarıda bırakıp, yumurta zarından geçerek kalıtsal bilgileri yumurtaya ulaştırmış olur. Spermler yoğun kıvamda bir sıvının içinde bulunurlar. Bu sıvının ismi meni ya da ersuyu denir. Spermin başı bir hücre çekirdeği gibidir. İçinde kalıtsal bilgileri bulundurur. İçinde genetik şifre ve DNA vardır. Bunlar yumurtaya geçtiği zaman kromozomlar çoğalır ve buna göre cinsiyet belirlenir. Kromozomlar tek hâlde oluşup, çifte bölünürler ve bölündükleri zaman doğacak bireyin cinsiyeti belirlenir. Spermlerin yarısı X diğer yarısı da Y kromozomu bulundurur.
