Ulum

Ulûm is a Turkish political newspaper published by Ali Suavi in ​​France between 1869-1870. After the publication of the journalist "Muhbir" he had left in London on 3 November 1868, Ali Suavi went to France; In Paris he began publishing his own newspaper, "Ulum". Ali Suavi pioneered the current of Turkism in this newspaper. He opposed the use of Arabic and Persian grammar rules, argued that Ottoman language was a political term and argued that it was not proper to use it instead of Turkish. The encyclopedia "Kamusu'l-Ulum ve'l-Maarif" was given as an addendum to the journalist. This 80-page work, which was started to be published in 1870 but could not be completed, is regarded as the first Turkish encyclopedia initiative. Ali Suavi had to close the newspaper after the 25th issue on 31 August 1870 when Paris was besieged during the Franco-Prussian War. However, he went to Lyon and continued publishing the newspaper with 11 points with the name "Affiliate Customers".
