癌（Carcinoma），有翻译为惡性上皮細胞腫瘤，是癌症的一种。在醫學上專指由上皮组织来源的恶性肿瘤，其它由結締組織來源的恶性肿瘤只称作恶性肿瘤，如：肌肉或骨骼的惡性肉瘤（Sarcoma）、黑色素細胞的惡性黑色素瘤（Melanoma）、生殖細胞的畸胎瘤（Teratoma），而血液科的惡性腫瘤則使用白血病及淋巴瘤的名稱。隨著病毒學的發展，至今已發現有百分之20左右的癌症為病毒所引起的。 由於絕大多數惡性腫瘤病例是恶性上皮肿瘤，因此在一般用途上癌已成為惡性腫瘤的同義詞，其它種類的惡性腫瘤也常被稱為癌或癌症，例如白血病就被稱為血癌。 在全球範圍內，各類癌症是人類第三大的死因，僅次於心血管疾病和各類感染和寄生蟲類疾病；在臺灣，自1982年起，癌症就一直是臺灣人第一大的死因。
