dysprosium
Dysprosium is a chemical element, symbol Dy, atomic order 66. Dysprosium belongs to the rare earth element, its appearance with silver metallic luster. Dysprosium does not appear in nature, but is contained in a variety of minerals, such as xenotime. The naturally occurring dysprosium consists of seven isotopes, of which the highest abundance is 164Dy. In 1886 Paul Emil Lecok de Bucha Bodran identified the dysprosium element for the first time, but until the development of ion exchange technology in the 1950s, the pure dysprosium metal was isolated. Because of its high thermal neutron absorption cross section, it is used as a control rod in nuclear reactors. Its magnetic susceptibility is also high, so it can be used in data storage technology and made of Terfenol-D material. Soluble dysprosium salt with micro-toxicity, insoluble dysprosium salt is non-toxic. ...
