Acrolith
Un acrolito es una escultura compuesta de piedra y otros materiales, como en el caso de una figura cuyo torso es de madera, mientras que la cabeza, las manos y los pies son de mármol. La madera estaba oculta por cortinas o por dorados; Sólo las partes de mármol fueron expuestas a la vista. Este tipo de estatuas era común y extendido en la antigüedad clásica. Etimología griega: acros y lithos, traducción al inglés: "altura" o "extremidad" y "piedra". Igualmente, la escultura chryselephantine usó el marfil en vez del mármol, ya menudo oro en las partes del cuerpo y de los ornamentos. Los acrolitos son frecuentemente mencionados por Pausanias, el ejemplo más conocido es el Athene Areia de los Plataeans.
