Albedo
Albedo, o coeficiente de reflexión, derivado del albedo latino "blancura" a su vez de albus "blanco", es la reflectividad difusa o poder reflectante de una superficie. Es la relación de la radiación reflejada de la superficie a la radiación incidente sobre ella. Su naturaleza adimensional permite que se exprese como un porcentaje y se mide en una escala de cero para no reflejar una superficie perfectamente negra a 1 para la reflexión perfecta de una superficie blanca. Albedo depende de la frecuencia de la radiación. Cuando se cita no calificado, por lo general se refiere a algún promedio adecuado a través del espectro de la luz visible. En general, el albedo depende de la distribución direccional de la radiación incidente, excepto las superficies lambertianas, que dispersan la radiación en todas las direcciones de acuerdo con una función coseno y por lo tanto tienen un albedo que es independiente de la distribución incidente. En la práctica, puede ser necesaria una función de distribución de reflectancia bidireccional para caracterizar con precisión las propiedades de dispersión de una superficie, pero el albedo es muy útil como primera aproximación.
