Aromaticidad
En química orgánica, la aromaticidad es una propiedad química que describe la forma en que un anillo conjugado de enlaces insaturados, pares solitarios o orbitales vacíos presenta una estabilización más fuerte de lo que cabría esperar por la estabilización de la conjugación sola. El uso más temprano del término fue en un artículo de August Wilhelm Hofmann en 1855. No hay relación general entre la aromaticidad como una propiedad química y las propiedades olfativas de tales compuestos. La aromaticidad también puede considerarse una manifestación de deslocalización cíclica y de resonancia. Esto se considera generalmente porque los electrones están libres de circular alrededor de arreglos circulares de átomos que están alternativamente unidos y dobles entre sí. Estos enlaces pueden ser vistos como un híbrido de un enlace simple y un enlace doble, cada enlace en el anillo idéntico entre sí. Este modelo comúnmente visto de anillos aromáticos, es decir, la idea de que el benceno se formó a partir de un anillo de carbono de seis miembros con enlaces simples y dobles alternantes, fue desarrollado por Kekulé. El modelo para el benceno consiste en dos formas de resonancia, que corresponde a los enlaces dobles y simples que se superponen para dar lugar a seis enlaces de una y media.
