Motor de haz
Un motor de haz es un tipo de motor de vapor en el que una viga de cabeza giratoria se utiliza para aplicar la fuerza de un pistón vertical a una biela vertical. Esta configuración, con el motor que conduce directamente una bomba, primero fue utilizada por Thomas Newcomen alrededor de 1705 para quitar el agua de minas en Cornualles. La eficiencia de los motores fue mejorada por ingenieros incluyendo James Watt que agregó un condensador, Jonathan Hornblower y Arthur Woolf que compusieron los cilindros, y William McNaught que ideó un método de componer un motor existente.
