Bioinformática
Bioinformática es un campo científico interdisciplinario que desarrolla métodos y herramientas de software para almacenar, recuperar, organizar y analizar datos biológicos. Como campo interdisciplinario, la bioinformática combina informática, estadística, matemáticas e ingeniería para estudiar datos y procesos biológicos. Los sistemas de información tales como bases de datos y ontologías se utilizan para almacenar y organizar datos biológicos. El análisis de datos biológicos para producir información significativa implica escribir y ejecutar programas de software que utilizan algoritmos de teoría de gráficos, inteligencia artificial, computación blanda, minería de datos, procesamiento de imágenes y simulación por computadora. Los algoritmos a su vez dependen de fundamentos teóricos como la matemática discreta, la teoría de control, la teoría de sistemas, la teoría de la información y las estadísticas. La bioinformática es una ciencia similar pero distinta de la computación biológica y la biología computacional. La computación biológica utiliza la bioingeniería y la biología para construir computadoras biológicas, mientras que la bioinformática utiliza la computación para entender mejor la biología.
