La ley de Bragg
En física, la ley de Bragg da los ángulos para la dispersión coherente e incoherente de una red cristalina. Cuando los rayos X inciden sobre un átomo, hacen que la nube electrónica se mueva como cualquier onda electromagnética. El movimiento de estas cargas re-irradia ondas con la misma frecuencia; Este fenómeno se conoce como dispersión de Rayleigh. Las ondas dispersadas pueden ser dispersadas, pero se supone que esta dispersión secundaria es despreciable. Un proceso similar ocurre cuando se dispersan las ondas de neutrones de los núcleos o por una interacción de espín coherente con un electrón desemparejado. Estos campos de onda re-emitidos interfieren entre sí de forma constructiva o destructiva, produciendo un patrón de difracción en un detector o película. El patrón de interferencia de onda resultante es la base del análisis de difracción. Este análisis se llama difracción de Bragg. La difracción de Bragg fue propuesta por primera vez por William Lawrence Bragg y William Henry Bragg en 1913 en respuesta a su descubrimiento de que los sólidos cristalinos produjeron patrones sorprendentes de rayos X reflejados. Encontraron que estos cristales, a ciertas longitudes de onda e ángulos de incidencia específicos, producían intensos picos de radiación reflejada.
