Casuistry / kæʒuːɨstri /, o el razonamiento basado en casos, es un método en ética aplicada y jurisprudencia, a menudo caracterizado como una crítica del razonamiento basado en principios o reglas. La palabra "casuística" se deriva del latín casus. Casuística es el razonamiento utilizado para resolver problemas morales mediante la extracción o ampliación de reglas teóricas de instancias particulares y la aplicación de estas reglas a nuevas instancias. El término también se utiliza comúnmente como un peyorativo para criticar el uso de razonamiento inteligente, pero mal fundido, especialmente en relación con cuestiones morales. El significado acordado de "casuística" está en flujo. El término puede usarse para describir una forma presumiblemente aceptable de razonamiento o una forma de razonamiento que es intrínsecamente incorrecta y engañosa.
