La polilla de Cecropia es la polilla nativa más grande de Norteamérica. Es un miembro de la familia de Saturniidae, o polillas de seda gigantes. Las hembras con una envergadura de seis pulgadas o más han sido documentadas. Se encuentra tan al oeste como las Montañas Rocosas y al norte en la mayoría de las provincias canadienses. Las larvas de estas polillas se encuentran más comúnmente en los arces, pero se sabe que se alimentan de cerezos y abedules, entre muchos otros.
