El cerebelo es una región del cerebro que juega un papel importante en el control motor. También puede estar involucrado en algunas funciones cognitivas tales como la atención y el lenguaje, y en la regulación del miedo y las respuestas de placer; Sus funciones relacionadas con el movimiento son las más sólidamente establecidas. Además de su papel directo en el control motor, el cerebelo también es necesario para varios tipos de aprendizaje motor, sobre todo aprender a adaptarse a los cambios en las relaciones sensoriomotoras. Se han desarrollado varios modelos teóricos para explicar la calibración sensorimotora en términos de plasticidad sináptica dentro del cerebelo.
