Chaldea o Chaldæa (/ kældiːə /), del griego Χαλδαία, Chaldaia; Akkadian: māt Ḫaldu; Hebreo: כשדים, Kaśdim; Aramaic: ܟܠܕܘ, Kaldo) fue una nación existente entre los siglos X y VI aC, situada en la tierra pantanosa del extremo sur oriental de Mesopotamia, que llegó a gobernar Babilonia brevemente. Las tribus de los emigrantes semíticos que llegaron a la región desde el Levante durante el siglo X aC se conocieron como los caldeos o los caldeos. La Biblia Hebrea usa el término כשדים (Kaśdim) y esto se traduce como Caldeos en la Septuaginta. La corta dinastía 11 de los reyes de Babilonia (siglo VI aC) es convencionalmente conocida por los historiadores como la dinastía caldea, aunque sólo los primeros cuatro gobernantes de esta dinastía fueron positivamente conocidos como caldeos, y el último gobernante, Nabonidus y su Hijo y regente Belsasar, eran conocidos por ser de Asiria.
