Potencial químico
En termodinámica, el potencial químico, también conocido como energía molar parcial libre, es una forma de energía potencial que puede ser absorbida o liberada durante una reacción química. También puede cambiar durante una transición de fase. El potencial químico de una especie en una mezcla puede definirse como la pendiente de la energía libre del sistema con respecto a un cambio en el número de moles de esa misma especie. Por lo tanto, es la derivada parcial de la energía libre con respecto a la cantidad de la especie, las concentraciones de todas las demás especies en la mezcla permaneciendo constantes ya temperatura constante. Cuando la presión es constante, el potencial químico es la energía libre Gibbs molar parcial. En equilibrio químico o en equilibrio de fase, la suma total de potenciales químicos es cero, ya que la energía libre es mínima. En la física de semiconductores, el potencial químico de un sistema de electrones a una temperatura de cero Kelvin se conoce como el nivel de Fermi.
