Khufu
Khufu, originalmente Khnum-Khufu, es el nombre de nacimiento de un faraón egipcio antiguo de la Cuarta Dinastía, que gobernó en la primera mitad del período del Antiguo Reino. Khufu era el segundo faraón de la 4ta dinastía; Siguió a su posible padre, el rey Sneferu, en el trono. Generalmente se le considera como la Gran Pirámide de Giza, una de las Siete Maravillas del Mundo Antiguo, pero muchos otros aspectos de su reinado están bastante mal documentados. Khufu es bien conocido bajo su nombre helenizado Khêops o Cheops y menos conocido bajo otro nombre helenizado, Súphis. Una versión rara del nombre de Khufu, usado por Josefo, es Sofe. Los historiadores árabes, que escribieron historias místicas sobre Khufu y las pirámides de Giza, lo llamaron Saurid o Salhuk. El único retrato completamente preservado del rey es una estatua de marfil de tres pulgadas de altura encontrada en una ruina de templo de período posterior en Abydos en 1903. Todos los otros relieves y estatuas fueron encontrados en fragmentos y muchos edificios de Khufu se pierden. Todo lo que se sabe sobre Khufu proviene de inscripciones en su necrópolis en Giza y documentos posteriores.
