Ciervo de agua
El ciervo del agua es un ciervo pequeño superficialmente más similar a un ciervo del almizcle que un ciervo verdadero. Nativo de China y Corea, hay dos subespecies: el ciervo de agua chino y el ciervo de agua coreano. Sus colmillos prominentes han llevado a que se conoce coloquialmente el ciervo vampiro en las zonas de habla inglesa a la que se ha importado. A pesar de su carencia de cuernos y de ciertas otras anomalías anatómicas-incluyendo un par de colmillos prominentes, se clasifica como cervid. Sus características anatómicas únicas la han hecho clasificar en su propio género así como su propia subfamilia. Sin embargo, un estudio de las secuencias del citocromo b mitocondrial lo colocó cerca de Capreolus dentro de una sección del Viejo Mundo de la subfamilia Capreolinae.
