Coloide
Un coloide es una sustancia microscópicamente dispersa a través de otra sustancia. Las partículas de fase dispersada tienen un diámetro entre aproximadamente 1 y 1000 nanómetros. Tales partıculas son normalmente fácilmente visibles en un microscopio óptico, aunque en el intervalo de tama~no más peque~no puede ser necesario un ultramicroscopio o un microscopio electrónico. Las mezclas homogéneas con una fase dispersa en este intervalo de tamaños pueden denominarse aerosoles coloidales, emulsiones coloidales, espumas coloidales, dispersiones coloidales o hidrosoles. Las partículas o gotitas de fase dispersada se ven afectadas en gran parte por la química superficial presente en el coloide. Algunos coloides son translúcidos debido al efecto Tyndall, que es la dispersión de la luz por las partículas en el coloide. Otros coloides pueden ser opacos o tener un color ligero. Las suspensiones coloidales son el tema de la interfaz y la ciencia coloide. Este campo de estudio fue introducido en 1861 por el científico escocés Thomas Graham.
