Congreso continental
El Congreso Continental fue una convención de delegados reunidos de las Trece Colonias que se convirtieron en el cuerpo gobernante de los Estados Unidos durante la Revolución Americana. El Congreso se reunió de 1774 a 1789 en tres encarnaciones. La primera convocatoria para una convención fue hecha sobre ediciones del bloqueo y de los actos intolerables que penalizaban Massachusetts, que en 1774 permitió que Benjamin Franklin convenciera a las colonias para formar un cuerpo representativo. Aunque al principio dividido en la independencia y una ruptura de la regla de la corona, el nuevo congreso en julio de 1776 dio un voto unánime para la independencia, publicó la Declaración de Independencia como una nueva nación, los Estados Unidos de América.
