Los santos Crispin y Crispinian son los santos patronos cristianos franceses de zapateros, curtidores y trabajadores del cuero. Nacidos de una noble familia romana en el siglo III dC, los santos Crispin y Crispinian, hermanos gemelos, huyeron de la persecución por su fe, terminando en Soissons, donde predicaban el cristianismo a los galos y hacían zapatos por la noche. Su éxito atrajo la ira de Rictus Varus, el gobernador de la Galia belga, que los hizo torturar y arrojar al río con piedras de molino alrededor de sus cuellos. Aunque sobrevivieron, fueron decapitados por el emperador c. 286. Una versión alternativa les da como hijos de una noble familia romano-británica cuyo padre había sido asesinado habiendo incurrido en el disgusto del emperador romano que vivía en Canterbury.
