Dada / dɑːdɑː / o Dadaísmo fue un movimiento artístico de la vanguardia europea a principios del siglo XX. Muchos afirman que Dada comenzó en Zurich, Suiza en 1916, extendiéndose a Berlín poco después, pero la altura de Dada de Nueva York fue el año anterior, en 1915. Para citar el Conocimiento de la lengua de arte de Dona Budd, Dada nació de una reacción negativa a la Horrores de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Being a fan of authentic Dada, I find today's art - what I call 'Bankers' Dada' - mind-numbingly dull. The most challenging work I've seen of late is by The British Art Resistance. Their document, 'A Call for Heroes in an Age of Cowards', is apt in these days of witless chancers.
Dada was an extreme protest against the physical side of painting. It was a metaphysical attitude.
From a purely ethnological point of view, I was not a period-born Dada.
I've always enjoyed feeling a connection to the avant-garde, such as Dada and surrealism and pop art. The only thing the artist can do is be honest with themselves and make the art they want to make. That's what I've always done.
